Changes: Increased explanation of how Stopmotion is used to foster creativity and fixed up grammar mistakes

Have you ever wanted to be a multimedia movie director? The multimedia effect combines multiple stimuli, including video, audio and text, to demonstrate information, significantly increasing the retention of information for students and teachers.

Through Stop-motion, multimedia and higher-order thinking strategies, students can demonstrate their prior and current learning through problem-solving. This is done through students creating an external representation to solve an inquiry without writing dreaded paragraphs (Vagg et al., 2020) Furthermore, students utilising multimedia encourage critical thinking and evaluation of how their message can be communicated using various stimuli (Mayer, 2018).
This is seen through the downloadable app Stop Motion, a free application that all students can use to create simple yet effective videos, all by pressing a button while adding background music, voiceovers and text to add a level of depth while explaining concepts.
For example, due to the simplicity of this app, I have created a Stop Motion to demonstrate the stage 1 PDHPE outcome ACPMP030 of how to be sun-safe through utilising video, voiceover and text (NSW Education Standards Authority, 2018). CC BY 2.0 JEREMY SEGAL Fostering Creativity
Stop Motion can significantly enhance students' creativity by showcasing conceptual understanding through cinematography methods. As students problem-solve how to convey ideas into stop motion, they can utilise techniques including string, camera angles and video effects to portray their outcome. Furthermore, students can utilise the Stop Motion effect to make their frames faster or slower, depending on how quickly they take photos to control objects.
Pedagogy - Cognitivism and Constructivism
As students construct videos, higher-order thinking strategies are utilised to assist the cognitive processing of the content, demonstrating solidified knowledge. Cognitivism and constructivism can solidify knowledge into long-term memory by evaluating and creating videos while demonstrating consolidated knowledge through more conventional methods. Students can use Stop Motion to control inanimate objects as if they were alive to explain a concept, enhancing engagement and understanding (Bower, 2017).
For example, students can utilise the Geography syllabus with Stop Motion to display understanding about their favourite animal (ACHGK021) (NSW Education Standards Authority, 2015).
Limitations CC BY 2.0 JEREMY SEGAL
However, the accessible version of Stop-Motion limits users from fully utilising the creative and multimedia potential by limiting foreground, background, and drawing elements that the user must manually apply.

Hi Jeremy,
This was such a well thought out and insightful blog post. I really like how you have defined multimedia as it sets up your blog post really well in focusing how stop motion is a highly effective multimedia tool to implement into the classroom. Great job linking to the syllabus and I loved your examples videos of you using stop motion to support this.
Thanks,

Hi Jeremy,
This was such an amazing blog post, I really enjoyed reading it. Your definition of multimedia is great. I have never heard of Stop Motion before; it looks like an amazing application to use in the classroom. You have outlined what stage and class this could be used in as well as giving an example of the type of activity it could be used for. This is so helpful for teachers, well done. I found the format of this a little confusing and separated however your information was great. Overall, you did a great job.
Thanks,

Hi Jeremy,
Your blog post offers valuable insights about the functionality of stop-motion technologies and incorporates two quality work samples! I like your use of subheadings to enhance the clarity of your writing and I think your post flows logically between arguments. I found the second paragraph to be a little unclear, but I think this is likely just a grammatically flaw with the series of clauses in that sentence. Overall, this post sparks creative ideas about incorporating stop-motion in the classroom in novel and exciting ways.
Thank you,
Mikayla
Hey Jeremy,
Wow what an insightful post I believe you really understood the point of the technology, I really love your layout and your ability for utilising the classroom examples. I would urge you to write your post with a little more creative tweak, I feel like I would love to see you add in some fun rhetorical questions, or maybe a quote to keep everyone engaged. However you did effectively educate me on this technology so you should be very proud of yourself :)

Hi Jeremy,
Well done! Your blog is very well organised. You introduced a technology that demonstrated the relevance of multimedia and also explored to a considerable extent what multimedia is. Your statement about how stop motion allows students to enhance their memories was very interesting. But I would like more information on how technology can contribute to creativity and ideas on the incorporation of teaching in certain subject areas.
